How To Solve Common Mobility Scooter Problems
A mobility scooter is an electric vehicle and mobility aid equivalent or auxiliary to a power wheelchair but configured like a motorscooter. However, as with all vehicles, you are bound to run into problems at some point. As a layperson, you also probably have little to no experience dealing with mobility scooter problems.
To give you a basic idea of what to expect and help you solve some common problems, Sun Mobility Rentals Dallas has listed three things to look out for and offers a few tips for dealing with commonly faced issues.
1. Figuring out mobility scooter beep codes
On most mobility scooters, the beep codes are a diagnostic tool used to help troubleshoot mobility scooter issues. There are a series of beeps that represent a specific problem. Depending on the mobility scooter brand and model, codes will continue to alert the owner until the condition has been taken care of and the scooter is turned off and back on.
2. Why is my scooter not moving?
If the scooter does not move when the throttle is engaged, check the manual neutral/drive lever located near the rear wheels. If the lever is in the neutral position, the brakes are disengaged, and the motor assembly is cut. Switch the lever back to the drive position, turn the mobility scooter off, and then turn it back on to return the scooter to normal operation.
3. My mobility scooter is dead. What should I do?
If the scooter is dead, there are several factors that could contribute to this. Make sure the key is turned to the on position. Be sure the batteries are fully charged. Check the main circuit breaker to see if it needs to be reset. Make absolutely certain that the battery is seated properly. Check the tiller console fuse.
